2016 Volkswagen Jetta vs. 2016 Chevrolet Cruze
With so many compact car options these days, it can be hard to find the right one for your life and budget. Hatchbacks offer slightly more usable cargo space, but the best bargains can still be found within the compact sedan class. Models like the 2016 Volkswagen Jetta and the 2016 Chevy Cruze offer plenty of interior space, in-cabin technology and modern styling to boot.
The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze is all-new for model year 2016, with a newly standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine heading the revisions. The new engine enhances fuel efficiency, but its acceleration and refinement just can't match the quality of German engineering on board the 2016 Jetta. With top safety scores, a variety of engine options and a healthy list of standard features, the 2016 VW Jetta deserves more than a passing glance if you're shopping for a new compact sedan this year, while the 2016 Cruze, even with its revised styling and powertrain, might not be enough to draw your interest.
Paired with the Cruze's standard 1.4-liter turbocharged engine is a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. A six-speed automatic is optional and is bundled with automatic engine stop-start. Standard 2016 Chevy Cruze features include: 15-inch wheels, A/C, adjustable driver seat and steering wheel, split folding rear seatbacks, Bluetooth, four speakers, a USB port, OnStar with Wi-Fi hotspot, a rearview camera, a seven-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. While the Cruze is fully loaded, no amount of features can make up for underwhelming performance, and the Jetta offers one of the most spacious and comfortable interiors in the class.
The 2016 Jetta's standard 1.4-liter turbo four is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. There are two more conventional engine options and one hybrid configuration available. Standard equipment includes: 15-inch wheels, power accessories, keyless entry, heated side mirrors, cruise control, adjustable steering wheel and driver seat, Bluetooth, four speakers, a five-inch touchscreen, a CD player and an auxiliary audio jack. A rearview camera, a 6.3-inch touchscreen, a USB port, satellite radio and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can be equipped with the S Technology package.
