Filter Replacement - The Basics

Engines have filters that protect them from dirt, dust and other debris, but what happens when too much of these materials build up in the filter istelf? Your vehicle's total performance may suffer, or you'll notice individual systems have stopped working the way they should.

What types of filters are there?

Most engines have an air filter, a fuel filter, a cabin air filter and a transmission filter. Each has its own purpse and can cause issues for drivers if clogged or contaminated.

Air Filters

Air filters keep harmful materials out of your engine, including dirt and even bugs. Waiting too long to replace yours may cause a loss in horsepower.

Fuel Filters

Fuel filters prevent pollutants from causing serious damage to vital engine components. A clog will cause poor performance and a decrease in gas mileage.

Cabin Air Filters

Just like a regular air filter cleans the air that's taken in by your engine, cabin air filters do the same for the air you and your passengers breathe.

Transmission  Filters

Your transmission system also has a filter to be sure any potentially harmful debris is isloated as fluid runs through.
