Joining the Volkswagen family is a new Beetle trim, the 2016 VW Beetle Dune, inspired by so-called “Baja Bugs” designed to tackle off-roading as part of desert recreation in Southern California in the late 1960s. Offering more rugged amenities and referencing a heritage distinct from the original Beetle’s, the 2016 Beetle Dune color options are highly anticipated by enthusiasts and car shoppers alike.
2016 Beetle Dune design
Volkswagen designed the Dune sub-trim to have a more aggressive and rugged exterior due to new front and rear fascia and “pronounced black wheel arch extensions” to enhance the overall effect. The Beetle Dune also offers a raised ride height and a wider stance. Overall, the Dune is a striking combination of vintage Beetle accents and modern, coupe-style details.

Dune body styles
The 2016 Beetle Dune will be available in two distinct body styles, a coupe or convertible, both with contrasting polished aluminum sills and black trim strips on the side(s). 18-inch Canyon aluminum alloy-wheels, all-season tires, silver side mirrors, “Dune” graphics, a large rear spoiler, LED taillights and a matte black and aluminum bumper combine to complete the Dune’s distinctive look.
One of the coolest features of the 2016 Beetle Dune will be an interior accent color that matches the exterior color option; the signature Sandstorm Yellow exterior finished will be mirrored in the Dune’s dash for a seamless, sporty and modern look. The Pure White and Deep Black Pearl models have black door and dash trim.
The Dune’s 1.8-liter turbocharged TSI engine will produce 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.
